This death inspired Alder to become a better trainer, which resulted in him becoming the Champion. It starts off several centuries before Ash was born and focuses on a trainer called Sir Aaron, who taught a Lucario how to use the mysterious power of Aura. Sir Aaron sacrificed his life to stop a war the destruction of the Tree of Beginning.
It is hinted in the film that Sir Aaron is actually a distant ancestor of Ash Ketchum, though this is never confirmed. Ash reawakens Sir Aaron's Lucario in the modern era. Lucario makes the same choice as Sir Aaron did and finally understands the decision made by its old friend.

There have been a few instances where the ghosts of humans who died long ago will show up, such as with Sir Aaron of the girl from the "Ghost of Maiden's Peak" episode. At the end of "The Needs of the Three", her ship is hit by two Future Sight attacks which cause it to explode and crash into the Lake of Valor, where it quickly floods.
We do not see J escaping from the ship, nor any members of her crew. This suggests that they all perished in the crash. She used an Ariados, a Drapion, and a Salamence in battle. The Soul Dew contains the soul of an ancient Latios that saved the city. At the end of the movie, Latios sacrifices itself in order to become the new Soul Dew.

Throughout the movie, Team Rocket tries to steal the Soul Dew for nefarious means.

Towards the end of the movie, it's revealed that Lucario's previous owner, Sir Aaron, sacrificed himself in order to stop the war at the Tree of Beginning. After witnessing Sir Aaron's emotional memories from a "time flower," Lucario decides to follow in his trainer's footsteps and sacrifice himself to protect the Tree of Beginning.
Perhaps even more disturbing than Meowth's death is the terrifying and unsettling Mimikyu that indirectly causes it. Latios and Latias presented some very unique powers in the movie, such as sight-sharing, invisibility, and shapeshifting. At the end of the movie , Latios had to sacrifice himself to save Alto Mare, and turned into the new Soul Dew, just like his father in the past.
In the ending credits, two Latios can be seen flying with Latias. They are believed to be the spirits of Latios and his father. He also briefly reappeared in a montage in The Rise of Darkrai , which chronicled the preceding nine movies. Latios has shown to have been a very mature and selfless protector, valiantly sacrificing his own life for the sake of both his sister and the town of Alto Mare.
They both work to save the tree, but Lucario pushes Ash out of the way at the last second and uses his last moments to rescue everyone. He turns into a crystal, just as his old master did years ago.
After more details came out regarding the Sun and Moon anime, many people were skeptical that it would be any good. While that remains to be seen, there's no denying that there are some phenomenal episodes so far. One of them involves a heartwarming friendship between a Litten and a Stoutland. However, things take a turn for the worst when Stoutland becomes very sick.
Then, the Litten has to deal with the grief of losing its best friend and discover how to move on in its time of loss. If you love dogs, I strongly recommend you do not watch this episode. It's a difficult one to get through. While he seemed to be good at his job in small doses, there is no doubt that he and his Croagunk were an effective team, always watching each other's backs. That having been said, it wouldn't always be that way for Looker.
It's revealed later on that he lost his Croagunk some time ago. What the cause of the little frog's death was, we'll never know. When they open a portal and cause him to disappear, the young girl becomes severely traumatized. When the Unown visit her, they create a dream world for her where she can be a trainer, live wherever she wants, and her "father" is Entei. As the Unown grow in strength, it becomes clear that they could destroy the entire region. However, it's Entei who comes to the rescue.
Through his strength, he is able to stop the reality that they created. Because he was part of that reality, though, he disappears along with everything else. It's not technically a death, but it's equally sad. The town of Alamos is plagued by the eternal war between Dialga and Palkia.
