What is the difference between 4d and 8d batteries

It looks like a slight modification to the battery carrier frame under the van. Below is a PDF with all the stats. The latter can be very costly. Definitely cheaper. Mainly it all comes down the pros of a slightly larger, lighter, cheaper, less problematic battery system that only puts out a little more than a single 4-D.

It just depends on what your battery loads are. If you usually reach But there are other ways to decrease your daily load that can help, namely LED lighting. Myself I like the twin 4-D battery system I have so I can run my microwave for limited amounts of time when camping close to others.

Not having to run the engine to heat a dish up is nice. Hope this helps. On and off road adventures. Thanks for the info Dave. I am just tossing this around. I think its a ways off but always thinking. I notice when I am out in the fall, when there is less sun for the solar panel, I would like to have just a little more. In the summer when there is sun quite late I am just fine. I like my T. I usually get up long before sunrise.

I also like my T. So that is my biggest consumer of electricity. I don't have a microwave. I also have changed all my interior lights to LED. Cold is also a big factor. If you camp in cold or sub freezing weather on a regular basis, the more AH you have on hand the better.

Just watch that pre-sun battery voltage which should point you in the correct direction. Myself I like to keep about a. I am just the opposite of you Dave, I try not to camp in the cold. I lived in Montana to long. I am still warming up. It's on the list Honestly, I cannot lift the 8D's.

Sometimes, I'm the only one caring for and maintaining the boat and I have had to replace batteries all by myself before. I can barely do it with the 8v golf cart batteries cussing like a sailor every inch of the way.

I would never be able to heave those 8D's across and over the genny and onto the shelf behind it. Ang 58MY "Sanctuary" www. Join Date Feb Posts 3, Re: 8D versus 4D There are any number of places to get 8Ds.

Most are made by East Penn Deka , who makes a number of Interstate's stuff. NAPA is a good source. I am going to try to be nice here, Ang, but golf carts are what I'd call a "Gomer" solution.

Two Group 31's would be a better solution for both turning engines and having some deep cycle capability. Join Date Apr Posts 10, Images Re: 8D versus 4D Everyone makes 8Ds, it is a standard truck size.

Either he's misinformed, or trying to sell you something else. And misinform you in the bargain. However, you might think about this- three Group 24s happen to fit perfectly into one 8D case, installed crosswise. You would need to connect them in parallel, but most deep-cycle ones have multiple terminals.

That will give you as much cranking and storage power as an 8D any day. Of course, you have a lot of small batteries and cables, but it works just fine.

Why sail with or have to lift a 8d? RCLS Commander. Depending on engine size or the cranking amps needed Making them much better for house loads. Also the design of the plates in a deep cycle battery are more friendly to your electronics because they act like a filter. I have a Deere and would trade my 8D for a 4D if it was time for a new battery for starting if I had the opportunity.

A bow thruster or windlass is a huge load but intermittent, and I would definitely keep that on the 4 or 8D Battery. Last edited: Nov 29, Pedlyr Captain. I would think the Group 31 would be fine for starting. But if it were me I would want the 8D for the house. TCL Captain. Pedlyr said:. Dslpwr Rear Admiral. Just to save weight in handling in the engine room. My boat is just a lobster boat plus if I went with a bow thruste I would go with a hydraulic one. Gurryman Rear Admiral.

I ordered my first class 8 truck with 4 delco group 31 CCA batteries. They lasted 14 years before needing replacement. ARC Captain. I went from a pair of 8D to group 31 when I refreshed the Crowley.
